In the Sculpture Garden...
with Julia Bogedale

In the series FROM OUR WALLS, members of the team talk about works in the gallery that resonate with them personally. Today, Julia Bogedale, Head of Marketing at KÖNIG GALERIE, introduces her favorite place at St. Agnes—the sculpture garden.

Surrounded by the rawness of exposed concrete and the distinctive geometric forms of St. Agnes, designed by Werner Düttmann as a striking example of Brutalist architecture, the sculpture garden reveals itself as a surprisingly quiet and peaceful place in the heart of Kreuzberg.

Removed from the bustle of the city, it offers a moment of calm that changes with the seasons. Whether the garden is freshly in bloom in spring, lush and shaded in the height of summer, or bare in winter, when the concrete takes center stage, it always feels special. The selection of sculptures changes over time as well, with each work finding its own natural place within the setting and creating a different dialogue with the architecture and its surroundings.

Bringing together works by artists from different generations and disciplines, the presentation takes the human figure as a point of departure for reflections on form and volume, presence and absence, art history, and the contemporary image.

If you would like to gain insights into the Brutalist design of this iconic building, stroll through its sculpture garden, and dive into the current exhibition, book a guided tour. For lager groups please contact info@koeniggalerie.com.
