CLAUDIA COMTE
HAHAHA
APRIL 2014 – OCTOBER 2014Made of 18 tree trunks all 600 cm tall and 50 cm wide, HAHAHA, is an outdoor sculpture commissioned by the Bex & Arts triennale in Bex (CH) in 2014. The work was the first in the artists series of palindrome trunk sentences. On the 5th of October 2015, Comte activated the large-scale sculpture with a performance, and later video work, that records HAHAHA being set alight while two pianists play a rendition of La Dance Macabre. As the flames intensify, a daredevil motocross rider jumps through the burning letters speeding between the pianos and moving in and out of frame.
