JOHANNES WOHNSEIFER
Studio Visit

The studio of Johannes Wohnseifer is a shrine to pop culture, filled with photographs and memorabilia from visual medias past and present. The elements collected and displayed on the walls of his workspace in Erfstadt, a small town close to Cologne, provide constant inspiration and points of reference for his paintings and mixed-media objects.

His works often appropriate the materials and slogans from advertising and commodities, which Wohnseifer recombines like an anagram, putting them to use to create entirely new meanings out of the already given. The objects, signs, and tchotchkes that adorn the studio space are as direct, colourful, and rich with meaning as the works they inspire, united by their probing of the desire that animates consumer products into something greater than the sum of their parts.
