TUE GREENFORT
RAGNAROK

POLITIKENS FORHAL, COPENHAGEN, DENMARK
23 AUGUST – 3 NOVEMBER 2023
With the exhibition RAGNAROK at Politikens Forhal, Tue Greenfort incorporates various public spaces and degrees of public spheres into a study of the greatness and decline of our civilization, with an eye on our somewhat distorted view of nature and the recurring use of symbols and metaphors that seem to obscure all knowledge and facts about our own and the actual state of the planet. The newspaper Politiken, Politiken Photo Archive, Politiken Forhal, and Town Hall Square together form the starting point for the critique that Tue Greenfort directs here against our understanding of nature and the romanticization of Danish nature, which is anything but wild, but divided into areas laid out for agriculture. The title of the exhibition, RAGNAROK, refers directly to the concept of Nordic religion for a series of events and natural disasters that led to the end of the entire world. The struggle between primeval nature and the domesticated "man-made" nature echoes in the Town Hall Square, where Tue Greenfort with the newly inaugurated Dragon Fountain by Thorvald Bindesbøll and Joakim Skovgaard from 1904 for an understandable journey back in time invites history and view of nature, in which we write ourselves and the planet today.
