BIJANKA BACIC
WE ARE DEFENDING THEIR ILLUSION

KÖNIG GALERIE X STUDIO STXDYOZ

STXDYOZ, VIA SETTALA 59, MILAN, ITALY
19 SEPTEMBER – 12 NOVEMBER

KÖNIG GALERIE is pleased to present WE ARE DEFENDING THEIR ILLUSION, the first solo exhibition by Bijanka Bacic. Born 1997 in Australia, Bacic is currently living in London. She obtained her BFA from the National Art School in Australia in 2018 and subsequently completed her MA in Painting from the Royal College of Arts, UK, in 2023.
Bijanka Bacic’s work is characterized by a process of different applications of paint, juxtaposing and yet enhancing the layers underneath: Observational sketches take inspiration from historical works like those by Delacroix or Franz Marc, which then serves as the catalyst to begin the painting process- a journey of layering forms and pigments onto canvas until it attains a moment of chaotic tension. This deliberate interplay seeks to draw out the intricate relationship among the different layers, playing with the illusion of depth by either pulling the different levels apart or drawing them closer together. The outcome is a rhythmic complexity, a connection that dances on the edge of coherence and disarray. Remarkable in Bijanka’s technique is her confidence and skill in dealing with and applying color: the colors combine without mixing.
