Plastic is everywhere—cheap, global, and embedded in daily life. Since the 1950s, it has fascinated artists with its design potential, evolving from a symbol of progress and mass consumption to a material associated with environmental threat. Featuring over 100 works by around 50 international artists, PLASTIC WORLD traces this transformation—from 1960s pop euphoria and Space Age futurism to Nouveau Réalisme’s trash art and contemporary eco-critical approaches. The exhibition was presented at SCHIRN Kunsthalle Frankfurt.
