The motif for the edition of Gregor Hildebrandt is a film still from the 1948 film "The Three Musketeers" by George Sidney and shows the character of Milady de Winter, played by Lana Turner. A fragment of a tape cassette slides between the fingers of Milday de Winter. On this piece of cassette the artist recorded the sentence "Hinter dem Hügel ist es Winter geworden" (engl. "It has become winter behind the hill ..."), which comes from Georg Trakl's poem "To the Boy Elis" (1913).
Hildebrandts pictures have a level hidden from the immediate sight of the spectator, but which unviels itself as a presence that gives the work its aura. Gregor Hildebrandt has been working with cassette tapes since 1997, from which he creates abstract motifs. The tapes are recorded with music or with lines of poems spoken by himself. The limited edition marks the beginning of a series of works that focuses on the character of Milady de Winter and its representation in the 20th century.
