Morphing Waves with Fire Corals (red gradient)

Claudia Comte’s interest in motifs derived from the natural world extends both to her subjects and to the forms that they provide in the composition of her works. In MORPHING WAVES WITH FIRE CORALS (RED GRADIENT), this process is on full display, as the outlines of the titular corals seem to organically produce the undulating lines that surround them, a rising dissolution of vibrant red colour dissipating from the saturated ground of the picture into the white horizon above. Background becomes foreground and vice versa, creating an almost kinetic energy between the two, the optical play of black and white mirroring the silkscreen process that Comte employed to create her edition.
