KÖNIG EDITION is pleased to present BAR, an edition that Anselm Reyle has created using a wooden A-frame and acrylic platter that sits inside it, turning the otherwise utilitarian construction into the titular bar. Each of the editions is unique and features a different mixture of colors, though the basic architecture of the frame and platter is repeated throughout all examples. Reyle is known for his vibrant mixtures of acrylic paint – neon pinks, white, and inky blacks – which he often layers with other image elements to create collages that play on the subtle and often imperceptible distinctions between real and depicted elements in his artworks. Each edition of BAR features the aforementioned acrylic drips, which decorate the frame as if having fallen from the construction of a work that the object once supported. Below, the reflective character of the acrylic emphasizes the mischievous dance of materials and colors, which, like much in Reyle’s work, serve double duty as both decorated surface and a place to store and serve spirits, champagne, or any other libations.
