"Family album" of the Danish-Norwegian successful duo, as usual self-ironic and unadjusted. The artist duo Elmgreen & Dragset has been collecting photographs for its image archive The Incidental Self since the beginning of their 20-year collaboration. The photographs with an intimate character have already been shown in galleries and museums as well as at biennials in Europe and Asia, and now they are being published for the first time as a pure illustrated book under the title Biography. The picture book includes hundreds of photos from a wide variety of locations and occasions, offering insights into the artists' studios, work processes, exhibitions, relationships, friendships, parties, travels, and other sources of inspiration. The spectrum ranges from private snapshots to images taken by family members, friends, assistants, artists, or professional photographers. Thus, the volume really comes across as an oversized, rather absurd family album with a clear focus on a masculine reality. Overall, the selection of images gives a fluid impression of what can be called 'identity' today.
