XENIA HAUSNER
ATEMLUFT

BAHNHOF BAD ISCHL, BAD ISCHL, AUSTRIA
4 MAY – 31 DECEMBER 2024

Xenia Hausner, an internationally renowned artist, painter, and stage designer who is well-connected with the Salzkammergut region is presenting her first sculptural work in public space. With ATEMLUFT – the 3m high aluminium and bronze sculpture – Xenia Hausner faces the social and existential problems of our time.

She observes the cynicism and the lack of a sense of reality when it comes to our vanishing resources distinctly and with dismay. ATEMLUFT is a sensory image of despair, a struggle for what we need in order to live, and a scream about what we are giving away. Like a dark cloud, the heavy oxygen bottle weighs on the head of the shouting figure. A mirror is offered to the repressive attitude of our society - in the highly polished surface of the sculpture we see the reflection of one’s self and recognise both the perpetrator and the victim. What remains? What do we lose? What have we put at risk?
