AYAKO ROKKAKU

A monumental work by Ayako Rokkaku takes over the public space beneath the elevated railway at Nørrebro Station in Copenhagen, extending the artist’s participation in the group exhibition I Can Buy Myself Flowers at Kunsthal n into the city.Originally created for the iconic Shibuya Station in Tokyo, the large-scale work brings Rokkaku’s distinctive visual language into a new urban context. With its vivid colours, gestural forms, and dreamlike figures, the work transforms the architecture beneath the railway into an expansive encounter with the artist’s universe.

The public project is presented by Kunsthal n in collaboration with Bispeengen and remains on view through mid-October 2026. Visitors can continue exploring Rokkaku’s work as part of I CAN BUY MYSELF FLOWERS at Kunsthal n, Copenhagen, on view through 13 September 2026.

AYAKO ROKKAKU
Ayako Rokkaku (b. 1982 in Chiba, Japan) lives and works between Berlin, Porto, and Tokyo. Her artistic process involves an instinctive and performative approach, as she uses her bare hands to apply acrylic paint, translating the motion of her body onto the canvas. True to her distinctive technique, she moulds figures with the tips of her fingers, whether on canvas, through glass, or in bronze.
