ART IN THE AQUARIUM

ARTIS AMSTERDAM ROYAL ZOO, AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS
PERMANENT INSTALLATION SINCE 2026

Contemporary artists show how water lives, moves and connects. Their work invites visitors to look at the Aquarium and the underwater world in a different way. Since its founding, ARTIS has been a place where artists come to find inspiration in nature.Joana Schneider works with old ship ropes and fishing nets. By wrapping them in yarn, she changes their shape and colour. For the Aquarium, she created the room-filling installation DIVINE IDYLLE. It is a world of its own, inspired by De Slufter on Texel, an area where sea and land meet.
