To commemorate its 40th anniversary and as a tribute to its founder, the museum will exhibit in its permanent galleries an important selection of the nearly 300 pieces collected by Franz Mayer during the first half of the 20th century and originating from present-day Germany. The exhibition includes paintings by Robert Janitz.

ROBERT JANITZ

Robert Janitz (b. 1962 in Alsfeld, Germany) lives and works between Mexico City and New York City. He studied Ethnology, Comparative Religion, Indology, and Art History at the Philipps University in Marburg, Germany.

Robert Janitz is known for his large abstract paintings for which he uses oil in combination with wax and flour on a monochrome background. Robert Janitz's unique language of abstract painting is based on a restricted vocabulary of elements: gradient backgrounds and vertical stripes that reflect a steady and methodical movement against their surfaces.
