CHIHARU SHIOTA
SILENT WORD

SCHAUWERK SINDELFINGEN, SINDELFINGEN, GERMANY
23 OCTOBER 2022 – 8 OCTOBER 2023

Artist Chiharu Shiota has been living in Berlin since the late 1990s. Shiota deals with universal themes such as life and death, homeland and fear in her art.
Especially for the former high-rack warehouse of the SCHAUWERK, she designs one of her fascinating installations made from interwoven textile threads. In this work, the objects are placed at the space’s centre. They include an chair and a desk covered with white letters in different sizes floating on black threads up to the ceiling and seemingly developing a life of their own. The characters expand like a universe of thoughts and emotions that no one can hear: SILENT WORD is the title of the exhibition.
The show is complemented by a work on canvas and several drawings and objects.
