These sculptures take their name and formal character from a four-hundred-million-year-old primeval fungus. For centuries, Prototaxites were believed to be part of the plant world, but within the last decades, they have been proven to actually belong to the family of fungi. The three sculptural shown in Tue Greenforts exhibition EQUILIBRIUM at the NAVE of ST. AGNES are very much alive and operate as a growth system for edible oyster mushrooms.
Today, mushrooms have become a popular replacement for meat, providing protein and offering a similar texture to their animal counterparts.
