Alicja Kwade | The Roof Garden Commission | New York
Met | 16.4.–27.10.2019
Berlin-based artist Alicja Kwade (born 1979, Poland) has been selected to create a site-specific installation for The Met's Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden, the seventh in a series of commissions for the outdoor space, which boasts stunning views of Central Park and Manhattan.
Kwade's mixed-media sculptures and installations reflect on the nature of time, perception, and scientific inquiry. With equal parts poetry and critical acumen, they explore the systems that humans have developed in an effort to control and understand an otherwise unfathomable universe. The resulting works are elegant, astute, and highly experiential.
