This imposing monograph offers an overview of the past eight years of Israeli artist Guy Yanai’s practice. Drawing upon everyday life, his paintings reduce objects to geometric blocks in a visual experience equally indebted to the pixilation of digital images as it is to the influence of abstract painters such as Matisse and Cezanne. His subjects seem flattened, with solid blocks of colour that appear similar to cut-outs or collage. Designed by Aurore Chauve, the book includes elven essays by various authors as well as conversations with the artist. It compiles for the first time all of Yanai’s significant shows and exhibitions, installation views, previously unseen works, and studio sources.
