PAUL CZERLITZKI
Paul Czerlitzki (b. 1986 in Danzig) now lives in Düsseldorf, Germany, where he graduated from the Staatliche Kunstakademie in 2014 as a master's student of Katharina Grosse.

In his paintings, he deals with the superimposition of layers of time that appear in the form of structures, dust particles, or imprints on monochrome color surfaces. Czerlitzki paints through the canvas, creating structures that produce a negative imprint on the material. For the artist, the canvas is not a carrier but a transfer material: a second untreated canvas is stretched on top of a primed one, which is then painted through with acrylic paint so that a veil of color of varying intensity appears on the lower canvas that cannot be completely controlled. In this sense, Czerlitzki sees painting as a laboratory in which he makes visible the presence of different times and spaces within the creation of the painting.

From 2011 on, Czerlitzki has had several solo and group exhibitions, national and international, and has held a scholarship at the Cité des Arts, Paris. Works by the artist were shown at the Kunsthalle Bern, Switzerland (2012) and can be found in the Contemporary Art Collection of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Kunstmuseum Bonn, the Collection Ricard, and the Collection Billarant in Paris, the Fondation CAB in Brussels, the Philara Collection in Düsseldorf, and the collection of the G2 Kunsthalle in Leipzig.
