KÖNIG GALERIE is pleased to announce that Monira Al Qadiri has been awarded the Fellbach Triennial Small Sculpture Prize for 2022. The Berlin-based, Kuwaiti artist recently joined the programme of the gallery and last week unveiled her latest public sculpture in London, DEVONIAN. Al Qadiri’s work is also currently featured at the Venice Biennale and other international sites, including a permanent installation, CHIMERA, commissioned by the Visual Arts Programme at the EXPO in Dubai. Her sculptures in Fellbach are the result of her ongoing research into the historical and cultural legacy of the pearl trade in the Gulf region and the massive social and economic changes triggered by its replacement by the petrol-economy. Al Qadiri’s unique contribution to these histories is also aimed at imagining, in visual terms, how a post-petroleum future might look. The award ceremony will take place on 1 October 2022; the Triennial runs through 3 October  2022.
