The painter Matthias Weischer grew up with four brothers. As a teenager, he liked to retreat to his parents' house in the attic or basement to paint. He liked to try things out for himself and also play with spaces on his canvas.Later after his studies Matthias Weischer was seen to be a member of Neo Rauch's New Leipzig School. This involved learning classical painting techniques, working from the object itself and painting figuratively. The label never bothered him and the similarities, especially people's interest in what interested him and his colleagues in terms of art, are evident: "The narrative moment is a point that everyone reaches | think. They're all stages upon which something is enacted.!" Matthias still lives and works in Leipzip.© Images Christian Werner
